Getting there.

Sunday, October 7, 2012

The Sailor Moon quilt I am making or my niece - she bought most of the fabric and I am putting it all together. I hope to have it ready when she and her husband move from Italy to Colorado, where they've been stationed for the past couple of years.
Indie and Giz - my two favorite animals in the world. I can't wait to see them again.
Another fingerless glove set - maybe if i quit buying Noro yarn I wouldn't feel the need to make them.
Pepperoni pizza and cereal to ship to Italy.
Working on the lawn.
Guernsey Wrap by Brooklyn Tweed progress. I love this wrap and will be make a few more in different colors.
Getting my notes together for NanoWriMo.
Hoping to win this year in NaNoWriMo. Participating in a workshop during the month of November to get ready for it.
Bought myself a new vehicle - 2012 GMC Terrain. So far I'm loving it.

#whateverittakes

I found out this week that I am prediabetic - not something I was expecting, but it does explain a few things. So it's time to cutback on the carbs and sugars. Prediabetes is a reversable situation, one I plan on reversing as soon as possible. I had commented on Twitter about walking a mile this evening, half of it uphill, and a friend had replied with #whateverittakes - so it will become my new motto as I lose this weight (I am more than 70 pounds overweight).

I'm working on a knitting project called Twin Lakes Blankie from Lion Brand yarns. I've had the yarn purchased from last year but had never started it. The person I was going to make it for was pregnant at the time, but her baby will be a year old here in a couple of months - but she is pregnant again and this one may be in time to get the blanket. Below are a couple of beginning photos I took for my Ravelry account. I like that I can keep track with pictures and percentages - helps me to complete projects.

I was also outside a a bit and took this picture with my phone. It is a couple of weeks old but it is such a beautiful picture I just have to share.

I am also participating in Camp NaNoWriMo - a summer version of NaNoWriMo - June and August are camp dates so come and join the fun.

A home in the country at last

I have to tell someone so I may as well tell you. I think my dream of owning my own home just took a step closer today. I've asked for some property from my parents so I can clear the land and start building a house. There is already electric, water, septic system and natural gas here where my maternal grandmother used to live before she died in 2008. Thieves have stolen anything of value already and I think more are still coming onto the property, so I've asked for it and hope to have it in my name by October at the latest. I can't wait to get started. More later.

What I've been up to since the last post

I tried again this year to participate in ScriptFrenzy, by the same people who do NaNoWriMo, but I am finding that I am just not a script writer. When I do write my own stories and novels, I do dialogue and only dialogue frequently, but I don't have to stop and add in names, etc. I just keep going with the words until I run out of them. My goal this year was to 'win' all the writing events they have. So I'm a bit disappointed at myself for not winning this one, but my brain just doesn't think the way it needs to to crank out a script.
Made it back to my most favorite place in the world, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. I renewed my year-long pass (expired one year ago). For once I didn't take as many pictures as I usually do, since I've been there approximately 25-30 time (at least one visit per month over a period of years) but I did go see the new exhibit Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the family and with Titanic. There were a few pieces of Titanic memorabilia on display as well. I have ALWAYS learned something new with each trip. I'm still trying to decide whether to spend my 45th birthday there next year. I would like to stay at the Inn on Biltmore Estate and go horseback riding, take a carriage ride and eat in some of the restaurants on the estate. The only one I have been to is the Stable Cafe, on my 35th birthday.
Bought some cool new stitch markers to use with my knitting. Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite so I thought these were appropriate. I got them on Etsy as a custom order.

What I have been doing since the last post....

An upcoming project - may take on the plane trip to Las Vegas

Looking for fencing ideas for my yard - not liking what is out there now

Looking at porch furniture as well, to replace the rusted pieces I have now - thinking about 2-3 different groupings, with outdoor rugs, to make it feel like an indoor space

Second glove completed for my sister - now to find the right hand glove

Pond Blue from Lorna's Laces (sock yarn) - bought from Jimmy Beans Wool and the book I am currently reading - love the Maisie Dobbs series!

Still working on this one, after frogging the entire thing - I like the yarn, but I've been coming across a lot of pieces that have been tied together - I don't like that part of it

Big storm Thursday came through the area - this is about two miles from my home - the sinister look to the sky was too much for me to pass up with my camera

More porch furniture - loving it very much, but not so much the price, although it is cheaper than some other places I've seen

Lunch spot - nothing quieter than a cemetery for a quiet, peaceful lunch before attending a work meeting

The right hand glove - the one that is currently missing - I can't find it or the cloth bag I had been keeping it in - I just hope I have thrown it away my accident!

I'm also working on another knitting project, trying to get ready for ScriptFrenzy (I will win this time!) and trying to get a short story idea for The Writer's short story contest.
